The history of Marseilleveyre

To tell the story of Marseilleveyre highschool, we must first talk about that of its castle: the Cantini castle.

It was built in 1860 by Emile Roux and belonged to Jules Cantini on a domain which was 28 acres large.

Marseilleveyre highschool was created in 1945 by Paul-Henri-Paul-Simon in the Langevin-Wallon project. This program wanted all child to have the same learning whatever their origin. It valorized the handcrafts learning.

Marseilleveyre was a "Lycée Pilote" with some "new classes". There were some basketry, iron, cardboard, wood, kitchen and sewing classes. Some of the lessons were told in the "Théâtre de verdure" which is an oustide amphitheater. There were also international and bilingual classes. This high school project was supported by parents and teachers but the Langevin-Walon project was stopped in the 1960's.

In 1952, Pol-Simon left Marseille to go and live in Geneva. The pioneer spirit of the school had to continue without him.

In 1975, Marseilleveyre celebrated its 30th anniversary. At the beginning it was just a small house by the river, but now, it was getting bigger and bigger to finally become a huge highschool surrounded by mountains, with a castle in the middle.

The school offers a scientific, litterate and international sections which you're allowed to choose during the second year of highschool  and which let students choose a specific section which they would or could, later on, want to work in.
